Ever have something spark a childhood memory?

The Lennon Sisters

Ralna Hovis

Guy Hovis

Myron Floren
The Champagne Music Makers
The Great Mr. Welk

In reading a message on one of my groups today, I had a flood of memories to flash back up. Someone was talking about Lawrence Welk. Y'all remember him, don't you? Or, if you are one of the "young ones", perhaps you have at least heard of him. Well, their conversation brought back memories of time spent at my parents' vacation home in Lehigh Acres, FL when I was a child. Read on to join me in my memory.......
In looking for some pictures to share, I had even more memories. Myron Floren -- my dad used to insist that I learn to play the accordian like Myron. What WAS he thinking? The Lennon Sisters -- didn't everyone love them? Guy and Ralna -- I remember how heartbroken I was when I heard they divorced -- how could they have done that? Following is my post to Howdie about my memories.
"Howdie, you brought back memories from my youth talking about Lawrence Welk. I, too, grew up watching his show. My parents LOVED him. I remember learning to dance by standing on my dad's toes and dancing with him. Anyway, my folks had a vacation home in Lehigh Acres, FL as we were growing up. The four of us girls HATED having to go down there because the four of us were pretty much the only people there beneath the age of 55 (and that was OLD back in the late fifties, early sixties). I remember one visit we were on and Dad told us to all get dressed up because we were going to the country club for dinner. He and mom were So-o-o-o-o-o excited about taking us. We knew when we got there that there was something special going on because every gray-haired person south of Orlando was there. LOL After our meal, they began setting up for a band to come out. And, guess who it was? Yep, Lawrence Welk himself -- bubble machine and all. It was quite a memorable evening. We also got to see Pat Boone AND Andy Williams at the country club in later years. As another old timer once said, "Thanks for the memories." Wow! What memories you have brought back."
